12th-ave-landscape-good2

On Sunday, August 15th we’ll be closing down 12th Avenue between Pike and Madison Streets from noon to 6pm to celebrate the 12th Avenue and Pike Pine neighborhoods in style. You won’t be able to get the usual strawberry shortcake or ear of corn from this street festival though! Fantastic local restaurants will offer international flavors from Italy, France, Mexico and Ethiopia…just to name a few. There will be booths featuring wares from great independent retailers and information from local yoga studios, salons, and theatres. The Festival will feature a beer and wine garden, roving buskers entertaining the crowd, and a fun-filled space just for kids. Come celebrate and support the great local businesses and organizations that make 12th Avenue and Pike Pine such fantastic urban neighborhoods!

The East Precinct is holding a street party this Saturday on 12th between Pike and Pine Streets. Come by to eat some food, say hi to your neighbors, and meet your local police officers. I hear that there may also be some K-9 dogs and police horses. Hope to see you there!

Take the 12th Avenue Retail Survey!

Wednesday, June 9th, 2010

Through the 12th Avenue Initiative, we are working on a retail survey to gauge what types of businesses are missing from the 12th Avenue neighborhood.  We’re specifically looking at 12th Avenue between Yesler and John Street.   I know this overlaps a bit with Pike Pine so when you’re taking this survey, please focus on 12th Avenue by itself.  We’re looking for ways to improve 12th as a commercial corridor and to help create an identity for the street.

Please take a few moments and fill out the survey so that we can understand what YOU want from 12th Avenue. All input will be extremely valuable and can help guide future development in the area.  This information will also be compiled as part of a larger retail study that should be completed by mid-summer.

We appreciate your help!

No 12th Avenue Stewardship Committee meeting next week

Tuesday, June 1st, 2010

Given our meeting-heavy month of May, the 12th Avenue Stewardship Committee meeting next Tuesday will be canceled.

Mark your calendars for July 13th at 5:30pm for the next meeting where we’ll be discussing the design ideas for the James Court Park.

Retrofit Home (a former 12th Avenue business) has moved to 11th and Pike into the old Aria space. While we loved them in the old location, we really love their new space, which is FABULOUS!

Come check it out at their (re)Opening Party this Saturday , June 5th from noon to 9pm. Explore the new space, say hello, buy some awesome stuff, and celebrate another great local business!
